In 2050 Sheffield, the rise of VR technology and the Metaverse will minimise the need for the majority of office jobs; no longer will there be a need for face-to-face meetings. This scenario leaves corporate properties across the UK vacant and available for development. ‘Growing Sheffield’ aims to use these spaces for urban agriculture, bringing food production into cities and reducing the carbon footprint involved with transport costs in the food industry. ‘Growing Sheffield’ is a pioneering food-growing district in Sheffield that can be replicated further afield.
