MSc Zero Carbon Buildings and Technologies

The MSc Zero Carbon Buildings and Technologies is a new cutting-edge MSc course at Sheffield Hallam University starting in September 2025. The course provides industry links to equip students with the skills and vision to tackle the climate emergency. With decarbonization strategies and resilient design practices, students will use data to explore complex construction challenges in various contexts.

The course is designed to develop professional skills, specialisation, and knowledge in decarbonisation. It includes mastering technical and experimental data methodologies in design, modelling, performance, and fabrication.

The course prepares students for a wide range of careers:

  • Environmental design and decarbonisation technology in architecture, architectural technology, engineering and built environment

  • Consultancy in environmental analysis, energy and carbon assessment, and building performance evaluation – focusing on decarbonisation

  • Software specialism in environmental data and modelling in the built environment

  • Technical retrofitting and digital prefabrication towards net zero
