8-80: The Inclusive High Street

High Streets are significant social territories, promoting community, employment and valuable cultural exchange. Their prosperity however has been in decline since the inception of the internet age; forcing shop closures and dilapidating buildings. In order to address similar issues facing Duke Street, this project extends beyond preservation, seeking to reimagine the use and perceptions of the High Street for society. 213/215 Duke Street (a former painting and decorating shop) is retrofitted to become the flagship building for the project – a shared space that encourages experimentation through art; a space of testing to implement strategies that develop the inclusive high street.
